Dear Washington Irving Families,
Exciting news! Washington Irving has just been designated a Great Expectation’s Model School for the 11th year in a row! I am so proud of everyone! We will hold our model school celebration soon! Each morning during announcements we practice a “Call Back” quote as part of our Great Expectation’s Program. This month’s “Call Back” quote is, “This is a team effort. If you can’t put someone up……please don’t put them down.” We will be reciting this quote each day during the month of March. Please discuss the meaning of this quote with your child/children and help him/her determine life applications. In addition, ask your child/children to also recite the Eight Expectations for Living to you. I think you will be impressed by how each child can recite them by memory.
I want to thank PTO and all of the faculty volunteers who helped create Bingo Night last Friday. It was a huge success and we all had fun eating pizza and playing bingo.
The EPS Board of Education has approved a plan for boundary re-alignment. Elementary boundaries are not changing, however middle and high school feeder patterns will change. Washington Irving students will attend the new middle school, Heartland, and Santa Fe High School. Parents of fifth grade students should be looking for more information regarding enrollment for Heartland. Please view the EPS website for additional information regarding boundary realignment and changes to the transfer policy.
March madness is upon us. Our first grade students will be performing a short program on Friday, March 4th. Class and Spring Pictures will be taken on Thursday, March 10th. Mrs. Hahn’s and Mrs. Mills’ students will be performing Mary Poppins on Friday, March 11th at Fanfare. Fifth grade is excited to present their “Hall of Heroes” on Friday, March 11th. Our Read-a-Thon is also on Friday, March 11th. We want parents to come and read to our students. Times for reading with each grade level will be posted this Thursday in Wolf Notes. We will also be showcasing Book Characters school-wide that day. Students, staff, and parents are all invited to dress-up as a book character for that day.
The end of the third nine weeks will be on March 11th, and report cards will be sent home the Friday after Spring Break on March 25th. Spring Break is the week of March 14th – March 18th.
As a reminder to all families, cell phones, iTouches, or iPods are not allowed at school. Understandably, some students need to carry a cell phone with them for use before or after school. They may carry it in their book bag, but it must remain in their book bag and off while they are at school.
Please continue supporting your child at home by reviewing and discussing homework and by reading with them each night. All students, regardless of age, can benefit from reading aloud to you and discussing the details of the story or informational text. We greatly appreciate and need your support at school and at home.
Thank you for all you do to support Washington Irving!
